Arizona Police Depts Uniform Patches

At this time (May 1984) there are 72 municipal (city) police agencies in Arizona. Arizona patches have always been hard to obtain and I feel this is partly due to the fact that 49% of the police departments in Arizona have fewer than 10 commissioned police officers and 74% have fewer than 20 commissioned police officers.

Arizona Sheriff Departments and Indian Tribal Police Uniform Patches

As of September, 1984, there are 15 counties in Arizona and each has a sheriffs department. From 1912, when Arizona obtained statehood, until 1983 there were 14 counties. In 1983 Yuma County was divided and the northern half of Yuma County became La Paz County.

Arizona Law Enforcement Uniform Patches

The purpose of this book is to show law enforcement agencies other than municipal city police or sheriff departments that are located within Arizona and have police powers. Some of the patches Cagencies shown have limited police powers but never the less are considered law enforcement agencies.

Arizona Patches 1987 Update

Only current and obsolete Arizona patches are shown as this is an update to our books #1 through #4. Today, September, 1987, there are about 77 municipal agencies and 15 County Sheriff Departments in Arizona.

Benson, Arizona - One Hundred Years of Law Enforcement

Benson is located in southern Arizona in the San Pedro Valley, Cochise County. It was founded in June 1880 when the Southern Pacific Railroad moved through Arizona. Revewing more than 100 years of law enforcement in Benson I found law officers referred to by 25 different titles.

Gila Bend Police, Arizona

Information about the Gila Bend is very scarce. Years ago the town hall burned down destroying all public records, including the minutes from council meetings, that may have shed some light on the department's history.
